Due to the current Coronavirus outbreak we are having to run the practice a bit differently.
To protect our staff and our clients the car park is being used as our new waiting room at the moment and the practice is now kept locked. We are bringing patients into the practice for consultations whilst their owners remain in the car park.
Please always phone first, as your pet won’t be able to be seen for any consultations or for you to collect any medicine repeats if you just arrive at the practice.
When you arrive at the practice to collect a medicine or with your pet, please stay in your car and phone us to let us know you have arrived and kindly await further instructions.
Please wear a facemask when outside your car.
For canine consultations.
When we are ready, after we have taken the history we will ask you to do a quick lead change over where a member of staff (wearing mask and face shield) will take hold of the lead to take your dog into the practice.
For cats, rabbits and other small pets.
Plase bring your pet in a secure basket or container and when we are ready, we will ask you to place your pet outside the front door of the practice and we will then take it inside the practice
Please can clients make sure they stay at least 2 metres away from other clients and our staff in our car park at all times.
We would like to thank all our clients for being so understanding of the very difficult circumstances that we are working under at the moment.
Head and Head Veterinary Practice Ltd. is a long established (founded in the 1870s), mixed Veterinary Practice, located in the picturesque market town of Helston (home of the Flora Dance) in Cornwall.
We are now the only independently owned practice in Helston. The current shareholders of Head and Head Veterinary Practice Ltd are just the two veterinary directors; Paul Riley, Johnny Alston and their respective spouses.
We treat all species of domestic animals, including the following: dogs, cats, rabbits, dairy and beef cows, sheep, pigs, horses, reptiles, birds, camelids and seals.
We are well equipped and have the latest facilities. We have 5 consulting rooms, a surgical preparation room, 2 operating theatres, a dental room and an x-ray and ultrasound suite. We also have a well equipped laboratory (with full on site haematology and biochemistry) and hospitalisation facilities, with a separate isolation unit for infectious cases.
We have plenty of on site parking spaces and spaces are also available on the road outside.
Reception opening hours are
8-30am to 7-00pm Mon and Wed
8-30am to 6pm Tues and Thurs,
8-30am to 5-30pm Frid
8-30am to 12-30pm Sat.
We provide our own 24 hr emergency service for our clients, on 365 days of the year. Out of hours, you will see one of our usual Vets at our Helston surgery - you WON'T have to travel to another practice! Our Nurses are also on call out of hours, to help with emergency operations and intensive medical cases.
Small Animal Consultations are by appointment (except for Sat am, when we have an open surgery 8-30am until 10-30am ) If you phone 01326 572216 during the practice opening hours, a receptionist will book you an appointment. So that we can provide good continuity of care, we try whenever possible for you to see a Vet of your choice.
We carry out home visits, for our small animal clients who can't easily get to the surgery and for the home euthanasia of sick or aged pets. However in most other cases, it is preferable if you can bring your pet to the surgery to be examined. We can then make use of the equipment, facilities and dispensary at the surgery, in order to give your pet the best treatment available.
For our Farm and Equine clients, we have a totally separate department at the practice. Having its own entrance, reception area and dispensary helps to minimise waiting times and maximise efficiency. If you would like a Vet to visit your farm, or to examine your horse - please phone our Large Animal Department on 01326 572215
