About Us

Taking excellent care of Cornish animals since the 1870s

They say that two heads are better than one, and we’ve certainly found that to be the case!
Our mixed practice in the picturesque market town of Helston has been caring for a variety of species for over a century, and our patients include pets, farm animals, horses, camelids, birds and reptiles. We even treat seals!
We were founded in the late 1870s by Charles Hoadley, the first qualified vet to work in Cornwall, and he was later joined by his son in law, Alfred Head, and his brother Stanley Head.
When Charles retired, the brothers decided to name the practice after themselves, and Head and Head was born.
Our practice has continued to expand and thrive over the years under the watchful eye of a number of talented veterinary professionals, including another member of the Head family, John Head, who was one of the first vets in Cornwall to introduce regular preventative herd health visits for farm clients.
We spent 77 years at our Coinage Hall premises, before moving to the modern site our clients know and love in Water-Ma-Trout in 1988.
